The testimony of Ken Wolf Sr
I was born at a very early age in Denver Colorado. I was born a preemie only weighed a little over 4 lbs., at that time most preemies didn’t live. The doctors told mom and dad after I was 6 months old, I still only had a 50% chance of living to first birthday.
As a child we never attended church, a few times mom and dad sent us to Sunday school but not very often. Our Grandmother would take us when we were spending the weekend with her, but I wasn’t raised in a Christian home. Our father would pray with us some times before bed but not on a regular schedule.
My Grandmother would tell me when I got in trouble that God was going to “get me “. Well he did but not like she had in mind. I knew who Jesus and God was but I did not have a personal relationship with him as a child.
My parents divorced when I was about 14 and my brother and I lived with our dad, problem is he let us do anything we wanted as long as we didn’t get in much trouble. We had a restaurant and I worked in it when I wasn’t in school. On the weekends one of the cooks and I would go out cruising and drinking on the weekends, dad was okay just if we didn’t get in trouble and showed up at work.
About at age 15 ½ I started dating my future wife she was 22 at the time. I knew her my whole life, she even baby sitter for me a few times while I was growing up. Before I was 16 we moved in together, we broke up and got back together and we got married on my 18th birthday. About a year later we had our first son and a few years later we had our second son. I was laying carpet with the same guy that worked at the restaurant and we still did a lot of parting after work. I wasn’t the best father or husband. I still did what I wanted when I wanted.
When I was about 22 I decided that I would buy a truck and go trucking for a living. I had it all worked out my drunk uncle was going to go with me and teach me how to drive! The day we were supposed to pick up the truck my uncle wasn’t able help me pick it up, so I had to drive it home with out his help. I had to ask the salesmen how to shift it, and only had to stop about three times, to start over, but I made it home. The salesman and I joked about this later, he was sure he would be getting that truck back. Actual I purchased several other trucks from him later.
Then after about 6 months my uncle decided that I knew everything, and he quit, and I was on my own, well I went on to own several trucks, at the most at that time I had three trucks running. We hauled ltl freight 1 truck going to California 2 times a week one to Kansas City 3 times a week and one to Montana about 5 times a week. Like most trucking nothing last forever. So, I sold all the trucks and purchased a brand-new truck in 1986, a Kenworth T 600. Cool looking truck, but the next day I was looking at it and thought what have I done, it was so different at that time. I leased on with Monfort and was running all over the country.
In January 1988 I booked a load home, I was going to be home for my birthday, my anniversary, and the Broncos were going to play in the Super Bowl. Well believe it or not Friday that load canceled and the next load wouldn’t be till Monday, I had to call my wife and tell her I would not be home again for an important date, she was absolutely thrilled with that news, I was so depressed, Friday night in Dayton Ohio at a TSA truck stop I went in to have dinner. I had three days to pick up load in Iowa, so I was not in any hurry, while eating an announcement come over that a chapel service was going to start soon, I thought why not! There I was minding my own business disappointed that my plans fell through, and now I am in a church service. And I didn’t know anyone there. Well to my surprise I guess I did know someone there. Jesus was there and I didn’t even know that he was invited. During that service he took residence in my body, he informed me that he died for me and paid the price for all my sins, no one really told me that. On that day I accepted Jesus as my lord and savior not my plan for that day but it was his plan for me.
Well after that I would like to tell you every thing in my life went well and I was sinless from that day forward. I would LIKE to tell you that but that is not what happened. About a year later my wife and I divorced, I lost a engine in that truck and could not afford the repair, lost the truck a lot of things were not going well. At that time, I wasn’t going to church or fellowship with likeminded believers. I bought another truck about 3 months later and I kept running into a guy named Phil, he was a Christian and we would get out the bible and study it, after I would feel great and enjoy my time with him and the word. He invited me to his church and I started going and really enjoyed it. My youngest son would go with me and we both got baptized together there, my biggest mistake after getting saved is not being with other Christians, its hard to be a lone ranger,
After a year or so I met my second wife at a body shop my friend owned, we started dating and wanted to get married, our pastor would not marry us till she was saved, she said she was and we got married. We were attending on a very regular bassist, then we started a flooring company doing home depot’s work in northern Colorado., we built that into a successful business doing several million dollars a year, we had the money to buy any thing we wanted and we did. She had a nice motorhome and I was drag racing, everything was well till we got our eye off of God. Soon she quit going to church and I believe she was cheating on me. Her son told me she was, while he was with her. We got divorced and I believe that is when my faith increased the most, I was focused on serving God. She ran from God and I ran to him.
I kept the account with lowes, doing their flooring for several years till one day that ended, I wasn’t sure why but I kept faithful to Jesus, I got back into trucking, about two years before we quit doing flooring , I purchased a semi-truck and trailer to haul my race car. Now I was using it to go trucking. I also left that church, after a lot of prayer, God was leading me elsewhere, I really struggled with this but I ended up at a truck stop chapel in Johnstown Colorado. immediately I knew that is where God wanted me.
One day a driver came through, I was preaching that day and he wanted to be baptized, I called my former church and asked if we could come over and baptize him and the preacher said no, he wasn’t part of their church, WOW, so we baptized him at the truck stop in a hot tub they had. He and I became friends, he was bringing his wife when they were coming through, after a while he came in alone wanted to talk, I said okay after church he said now so we went out and he told me he was having problems with lust, seams he was tempted everywhere he went, I told him he couldn’t just walk away he had to run. That is the day I knew I was right where god wanted me.
Now I’m not sure why, but God is leading me to start a children’s home, I’m 60 why would he be doing this to me? But he won’t leave it alone, and I am excited about doing this. I have the desire to build a place where kids know that they are wanted. I can not afford this but I know if its Gods will he will find a way to make it happen! I am now looking for help making this happen. I know that there are no unwanted children, just have to unite the child with adults that want children.
